... Cutting and drying oranges can add color to your decorations.

Dried oranges serve many decorative purposes, from potpourri to wreath decorations. If you do not have time to wait for the oranges to dry naturally, you can dry them in a microwave oven. This process requires only one or two days for the oranges to dry enough to be used in your decorations. The microwave process requires a few minutes of your time to complete.

Video of the Day

Step 1

Place three paper towels on a plate. The plate must be microwave-safe or the whole project may be ruined.

Step 2

Cut the oranges in one-inch slices, and pull the rind away from the fruit. Either discard or eat the fruit.

Step 3

Put the orange peels on the plate and cover them with three more paper towels.

Step 4

Microwave the oranges for three minutes and then turn them over. The oven should be on 50 percent power during this process

Step 5

Rotate the plate, and cook for three more minutes. If you have a carousel, leave the oranges in for a total of five minutes.

Step 6

Leave the oranges in a cool, dry place for two or three days so they can dry. Find a high location so that you do not leave them exposed to animals or children during this time.
