If you're decorating your child's room in a jungle or forest theme or simply wish to incorporate tree decor, you can create a realistic looking tree using only a few simple craft supplies. By making the tree decoration yourself, you can customize the size of the trunk and what type of leaves to use. Incorporating realistic looking faux leaves and creating a trunk with lots of true-to-life texture will make your tree project look authentic.
Step 1
Cut multiple rectangles from brown butcher paper that measure to be 3 feet by 2 feet. How many rectangles you will need depends on how large you'd like to make the tree; a tree that goes all the way up the corner of the wall could require as many as 35 or 40 rectangles.

Step 2
Crumble the brown butcher paper rectangles with your hands to create a wrinkled, bark-like appearance. Once a rectangle is crunched together, flatten it back out and repeat until the entire surface is riddled with lines.
Step 3
Arrange the brown crumbled paper rectangles, one at a time, over the corner of the wall to form the general shape of the tree trunk. Use wall tacks to secure the paper to the walls. For the bottom pieces, shape the ends into a point to resemble tree roots. The tree should be about 4 rectangles wide, with the pieces placed vertically. The branches should also be twisted at the end to create realistic shapes.
Step 4
Attach a second layer of crumbled brown paper rectangles directly over the first layer, using a stapler to attach the paper. This will make the trunk of the tree a little more three dimensional than before. You can add as many layers as you'd like to get the trunk to pop out from the corner of the wall.
Step 5
Attach silk or faux leaves directly to the brown paper tree trunk using super glue. The branches and top third of the trunk should have leaves on them, but you can choose to make the layer of leaves as thick or thin as you'd like. Super glue only requires a small dollop and dries quickly, which will allow you to attach the leaves in less time than it would take with craft glue.
