A Delta oval tilting mirror uses a set of posts to adjust its angle relative to the bathroom wall. The posts position the center of the Delta oval mirror 3 1/2 inches away from the wall. Each post holds a pivoting rod and bushing that allows the Delta oval mirror to tilt up or down, depending on the user's needs. A Delta oval mirror can mount against any type of wall covering, including tile and drywall.
Step 1
Place a pencil mark on the wall at the appropriate height for the Delta oval mirror's posts, using a tape measure as a placement guide. If installing the Delta oval mirror over a countertop, place the pencil mark at least 14 inches above the countertop's backsplash. Often installers place tilting oval mirror posts slightly above eye level in a shower or on a wall.

Step 2
Hold the Delta oval mirror's template in line with the pencil mark on the wall. Adjust the template until it rests plumb, using a bubble level as a guide. Secure the template to the wall with masking tape. Delta includes a template with the tilting mirror. The template identifies the hanging bracket's screw hole locations. Both oval mirror posts are held in place with its own hanging bracket.
Step 3
Drill pilot holes for the oval mirror's hanging brackets with an electric drill equipped with the proper size drill bit, using the template as a hole placement guide. If drilling into a drywall covered wall, equip the drill with a one-sixteenth-inch drill bit and drill each pilot hole. If the one-sixteenth-inch drill bit did not enter a wooden wall stud, replace the one-sixteenth-inch drill bit with a three-sixteenth-inch drill bit and widen the pilot hole with the larger drill bit. If drilling into a tile- or masonry-covered wall, equip the drill with a three-sixteenth-inch drill bit and drill each pilot hole.
Step 4
Remove the template and masking tape from the wall.
Step 5
Push the pointed end of a manufacturer-supplied plastic anchor into one of the hanging bracket's three-sixteenth-inch-wide pilot holes and tap the anchor with a hammer until the anchor's wide end sits flush with the wall's surface. Repeat this procedure with each pilot hole. Do not force an anchor into a one-sixteenth-inch-wide pilot hole drilled into a wooden wall stud.
Step 6
Hold a hanging bracket against the wall and align its screw holes with the wall-covering's one-sixteenth-inch-wide pilot holes or plastic anchors, keeping the bracket's curved end facing down and its notched end facing up. Run a Delta-supplied mounting screw through both of the hanging bracket's screw holes, using a Phillips screwdriver to tighten the screws. Repeat this procedure with the second hanging bracket.
Step 7
Slip the open end of each of the mirror's posts over its respective hanging bracket until the post rests against the wall covering. Slide both posts down simultaneously onto its respective hanging bracket. The lip inside of the post's open end grips the hanging bracket's notched end, holding the post and mirror in place against the wall.
