... A stained glass design is one option for covering mirrored doors.

Brass mirrored closet doors can make a room look out of date, and it is not always possible to replace the closet doors. Instead, paint them to give them a whole new look. Using the right products for the job, you can give the doors a new personality. Whether you want them to blend with the rest of the room or be an additional piece of art, you can finish the project in days. Look for glass paints at home improvement and hobby stores.

Paint the Brass

Step 1

Tape off the mirror section of the doors to protect them. Clean the brass edging and handles with a degreaser and sponge to remove dirt, oils and waxes. This is important, because otherwise the primer can't work and then the paint won't stick.

Step 2

Brush metal etching primer over all of the brass hardware. Let the primer dry completely.

Step 3

Brush enamel over the primed surface. Let this dry and then add another coat. This second coat helps the paint last longer. Let this dry, then remove the tape from the mirror.

Painting the Mirrors

Step 1

Tape off the enameled trim with low-tack painter's tape. It is essential to let the paint dry completely first. Otherwise, even low-tack tape will cause the paint to peel. Clean the glass with rubbing alcohol and a clean rag. This ensures maximum paint adhesion.

Step 2

Paint the mirrors using glass paint. You can use multiple colors to create a fresh design for the room or a color that coordinates with the wall paint. Let the paint dry completely.

Step 3

Add another coat of paint, if desired. Or, if you are painting on a design, add finishing touches or details. Let it dry thoroughly.

Tip

Draw designs onto closet doors with a marker. Then fill in with glass paint.

Warning

Open windows and use fans when using the metal etching primer and enamel paint, especially if the paint is oil-based.
